MENTAL HEALTH AWARENESS 2012

May is the month for Mental Health Awareness. The stigma and shame that comes a diagnosis mental illness is so taboo in our society today. There is so much that is not commonly known about mental health, its study and examination has been around for many years. Mental Health America is an organization that is dedicated to keeping awareness at the forefront. The bell is the symbol of hope for Mental Health America and read why below
Cast from shackles which bound them, this bell shall ring out hope for the mentally ill and victory over mental illness.

In the early 1950s, Mental Health America issued a call to asylums across the country for their discarded chains and shackles. On April 13, 1956, at the McShane Bell Foundry in Baltimore, Md., Mental Health America melted down these inhumane bindings and recast them into a sign of hope: the Mental Health Bell.
