Its The Ninth Month: Gratitude

image

Gratitude is a state and we all need to learn to live in it! It is the Ninth Month and I am operating in a state of Gratitude.

Gratitude, is “a feeling of thankful appreciation for favors or benefits received; thankfulness.” http://www.yourdictionary.com/gratitude

When you look around at the world and all the madness that happens daily, we  can take a moment and pause to say I am grateful.
Well what things are you grateful for in this world? A Loving God, Living Life, Lessons from Family, Learning at Work, and Listening to others.

Loving God is the first step to showing gratitude. It is the love God towards us that is the wind behind our existence. Because God loves us we owe Him the ultimate in gratitude.

Living Life is what we all have opportunity to do. Living life with gratitude is a choice we all can make by being thankful for what we are given and what we give to others.

Lessons from family are the things we learn from our elders and our youth. I often share with my Sunday School students that the day you stop learning you may as well cut your head off. My grandparents and their siblings instilled so many things into my life.  Mom and Dad have given me golden nuggets of gratitude that keep me going daily.

Learning at work helps me to inspire others and encourage myself. Being grateful for knowledge make the work you do matter. Determine that you will learn something new daily.

Listening to others is so important to how we extend gratitude. To hear what and others have to say, helps us two allow others to have a say. Listening to others, shows patience and concern beyond self.

So we are here in the Ninth Month, tell me what you are grateful for in this season?

Hey Daddy

Hey Daddy
Seems like yesterday since you went away. Thoughts of you flood my mind a many a day!
(Cause you are always on my mind)

Hey Daddy
This is my 28th Father’s day and it’s still hard to deal
Life without your presence feels so unreal
(Cause you left that lasting impression)

Hey Daddy
I can see your distinctive frame
Yes my together and sharp Daddy William Henry Clay Sr, your name
(Cause most folks just called you Clay)

Hey Daddy
That striking salt and pepper curly fro
Styled to perfection, they better know
(Cause you had that hair)

Hey Daddy
I see you with shiny diamonds and gold rings
Always flashy projecting like a king
(Cause you were one)

Hey Daddy
Whether rocking a suit a jogger or your Sunday best
You lived to rise up above the rest
(Cause you could)

Hey Daddy
I hear those rings and pocket change clinging in harmony
I hear it with others brings you back to me
(Cause that how we could find you)

Hey Daddy
I inhaled your fragrance so fresh and clean
Filling the air as a calling card was your thing
(Cause you loved to smell well)

Hey Daddy
You were full of wisdom and advice
Miss hearing from you on this journey called life
(Cause you were versed on everything)

Hey Daddy
Wish you had never gone away from here
Yet I know you are above
Just crave a moment for the essence of your love
(Cause you are missed and loved)

Hey Daddy…
Happy Father’s Day 2016

“What’s Going On” A Poetic Tribute To Marvin Gaye

Marvin Gaye Page - Header image

What’s Going On?

What’s going on the question dear Marvin asked over forty decades ago

I sit here and ponder and can honestly can say do we really know

Mother’s are still crying so many tears of pain

Will they find a place of peace some sunshine after the rain

Our brothers they are dying  on foreign soils and lands called home

Some considered endangered species in the places that they roam

Fathers we call on you to not let wars rise up and elevate

In your hands are the keys to both peace and love to war and hate

People are protest marching  and carrying thought-provoking signs of the times

Seeking to make a difference and eagerly towing the lines.

So Marvin is asking and wondering  about what is going on in our world today

I believe he said it best when he offered that classic line

You know we’ve got to find a way

To bring some lovin’ here today

If  love is truly the answer  to all our ills and woes

Infusing it into the fabric of our lives is really how it  goes

Now that is what is going on…

Rest so peacefully Marvin Pentz Gay, Jr.  (Marvin Gaye)
