Where Does It Go…Time

Do you ever find yourself wondering about this incremental element called Time? All too often it is easy to consider Where Does It Go…Time when it moves from this place and space? It is 2012 and we are twenty-five days into the month, Where Does It Go…Time. Moments to seconds, minutes pass into hours, and then roll into days. The weeks turn into months and then the years march into view, it still makes you wonder Where Does It Go…Time.

If you are searching for more time realize that everyday finds it can only handle the 24 hours allotted. Learn to use your time wisely and be productive. While we are pondering about the activity of TIME, it is moving along and thinking, Where Does It Go…Time .

Thursday Thinking by YoTrip for November 3, 2011- My DADDY/ODE TO CLAY (Vol.11, Iss.1)

Daddy Loves You

Image by Joe Shlabotnik via Flickr

Over twenty years ago today, my life was changed the day my Daddy left his earthly shell and captured his heavenly crown.

It was a Thursday evening, and I was in my apartment at Georgia Southern in Statesboro when the telephone call that would rock my world.

The call came in and it was a simple request to come home because something had happened  to my Daddy. I had to tell my friends I was leaving

early for Augusta. In the dark of night I drove the 80 miles from Bullock County to Jenkins County to Burke County and finally to Richmond

County…home.

All I could think about was the times my Daddy and I  had spent together. I was in my senior year at Georgia Southern, each time I got into my

Chevy Sprint and started to back down our driveway, my Daddy was slow walking me down and making sure I had everything and verifying my

graduation in the Spring of 1990. Our time and those talks are seared in my mind and are fresh like it was yesterday. I am glad I had those memories

of my Daddy and there were countless others in the years we had as father and daughter.

Every year as the seasons change and the time changes, I am faced with this day of remembering when my Daddy graduated from earth to heaven.

Time passes but the void in my heart remains, I miss my Daddy like crazy. When I think about him, I try to stay in a happy place and think of the

good memories (there were so many).

The poem below speaks volumes to how I feel…

ODE TO CLAY

Memories of Daddy flood my mind

He was truly meant to be a one-of-a-kind

A positive presence for the world to see

Forever he was pushing us to be the best that we could be

Always concerned about what mattered to each and everyone

Never would he quit until the job was done

A friend to all who came into his path

Always poised to make you laugh

A heart of gold, he gave freely to family and to friend

On the man most called “CLAY” you could always depend

God fearing, hardworking, compassionate, strong and loyal to a fault

Traits passed on to his family, so many things to us he taught

Oh how the years have passed yet his memory does not fade out

At times when I need my Daddy, I wish to him I could shout

A word of wisdom, a smile of encouragement or a big hug to calm my fears

Just to find him jingling pocket coins next to his rings would ease all my tears

So much I long to tell you in a lengthy heart to heart

I LOVE AND MISS YOU a great place to start.

A Season of Thanks

As we enter the time of year known as the holidays, Thanksgiving is here and Christmas is fast on its heals. This Is a Season of Thanks, for where we are and who we are, and what we have. A Season of Thanks ushers in a time when we reflect on gratitude. There is so much to be grateful for in this Season of Thanks, we cannot count up all the blessings.

For the next 30 days I will speak on the season of thanks. There are so many reasons to give thanks, 30 days does not even begin to scratch the surface.

Day 1 of the Season of Thanks is for LIFE.
My life is a gift and I am so thankful.

Moments of Change

The Power of the Moment

Time is always relevant when you are dealing with the Power of the Moment. We find ourselves using the smallest increment of time…moments. We can all stand savor the power of the moment for what it offers us. The Power of the moment, is evident is the faces, places, and spaces it appears. I cannot take a moment to explain the power of  the moment.

Thursday Thinking by YoTrip for August 18, 2011-If We Could See Into the Future… (Vol.8, Iss.2)

SIXTYNINE | threesixtyfive

If We Could See Into the Future…

If We Could See Into the Future … What would the future reveal? Good things, happy things, bad things, sad things are all possibilities that could be presented in our future living.

All too often, we find ourselves wanting and wishing to move the hands of time forward. Whatever is set to happen in the future, makes us want to think about it, see it, hear it, touch it, and be apart of it. Just the thought of what could be, should be and what would be in the future peaks our sense of curiosity. If We Could See Into the Future..We want to leave the here and now unattended, undone, and unfinished to move to those things that are set to come, should we make it to that place called the future.

If  We Could See Into the Future…how much of our “right now” would we change? I think the old adage, “If I knew then, what I know now, I would have done things differently” comes to the forefront of your thinking about the future. We are so ready to get to the next thing that we do not realize that we have to: come to, in order to go through, so we can get to the future. Our microwave mindset, tells us that coming to and going through are too much in the process, let’s just skip ahead to the future.

If We Could See Into the Future…would we like everything that the future has in store for our lives? We know that all day’s are not perfect nor will they be what we imaged. People change, places change, possessions change and processes change without a reason.

If We Could See Into the Future… I would have known that today would take me on a journey of high’s and low’s, up’s and down’s, mad’s and glad’s in the course of eight working hours. I find myself able to find a ray of hope and a smile because I recognize that there is someone bigger than me that holds the future.

If We Could See Into the Future…

Happy OC Anniversary

July 28, 1998 found me embarking on a new journey to add to my colorful and varied resume, as I spent the day in orientation in a room full of newbies. On this day thirteen years ago, I became an employee of Orange County Government (OCG) within the Growth Management and Environmental Services Division and the Building Department. I know that was a great deal to write and even more of a mouthful to say. I was so glad when the department became Growth Management and we became Building Division and then The Division of Building Safety.

I was hired as a Permit Analyst with the Building Department. My job back then was to assist people who visited our offices for permitting services. I started  out with four other people who were also Permit Analyst. I also started out with a young lady who worked in the communications Department and is still there today.

Working as a Permit Analyst gave me the foundation and training to understand the very basics of the Permitting services business. I worked as a Permit Analyst for fifteen months, as I had a desire to learn and do more within the department. I was promoted to Project Administrator, and was given the opportunity to expand my wings and grow in the business of helping people for the next two years. My next move was to become the Building Coordinator and for the next seven years I was responsible for directing traffic with Permit Analysts, Interns, and temporary workers. This position helped me become a better follower, leader, listener, coach and trainer.

For the last three and a half years, I have been a Program Development Supervisor for the Division of Building Safety (I know the name changed again!). My current position allows me to continue to work with assisting people who need permitting services. Additionally, I can use my advanced degree in Organizational Management to help advance our work in helping our community grow and prosper. I am so glad to watch the landscape of Orange County change before my eyes with building and construction projects.

I say thanks to all who I have worked with and for over the years.I have learned and lived so much in my endeavor to help people realize their dreams. I am happy to say that after 13 years, 3 major hurricanes, record-breaking highs and lows in the building business, I am looking forward with anticipation and expectancy for what the coming years will bring. Happy OCG Anniversary, time sure does fly!

Find a reason to laugh at something in your life. On several ocassions I just let out a big old gut-felt laugh at myself or something happening around me.

Thursday Thinking by YoTrip for May 12, 2011-A Winner’s Heart(Vol.5, Iss.2)

Surface anatomy of the human heart. The heart ...

Image via Wikipedia

Winning is always a goal that people seek in the game of life. Gaining, accomplishing, acquiring, all equals to a person  winning.  When someone  is,viewed as a winner, there is an implied belief that they have a heart for winning and a winner’s heart. When you win with a winner’s heart, you win with, style and grace.

Do you have a heart for winning? Are you operating with a winner’s heart? Is winning a goal in which you have set for yourself? If you cannot answer yes to these questions, maybe it is time to do a check of your heart. Is there a winner in you?

Thursday Thinking by YoTrip for March 31, 2011-Bill’s Story Could Be Your Story -The Invisibles continued (Vol.3, Iss.3)

Flickr - …trialsanderrors - The Roads to Heave...

Image via Wikipedia

Bob, Brad, or Bill could be his name but how would you know, you are so consumed with his appearance you never consider he is a human being, just like you.Sure Bill is unkempt, in need of a long hot shower, haircut, and shave, but these are luxuries to somone struggling to survive on the streets.

Bill is posted on the block and within the box made of broken blue lines on the cobbled concrete. While standing inside the box Bill can legally ask for a handout from those passing by his space.

Bill was not always relegated to a box on the block. The downturn in the economy, an injury that seems to linger and a series of losses job, family, house took away life as he knew it.

Bill was a homeowner, a husband, and a hard worker living a good life.  Currently  Bill is homeless,  separated from his family, and humbled by his new existence.  In an instant his status changed and he began a downward spiral to living life on the streets. Bill’s place, his new home, is where he walked many days yet he never imagined this would be his story.

Bill’s story is as common as the winds that swirl and quickly change. There are so many “Bill’s” out there who are trying to figure out how to make it and survive day-to-day. Be aware that in an instant Bill’s story can become your story…
