Ask, Seek, Knock 7/7/14

Matthew 7:7-14 New International Version (NIV)

Daily Bible Blast: Matthew 7:7-14bit.ly/1r4EhnB

Ask, Seek, Knock

“Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.

For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened.

“Which of you, if your son asks for bread, will give him a stone? 10 Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a snake? 11 If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him! 12 So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you, for this sums up the Law and the Prophets.

The Narrow and Wide Gates

13 “Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. 14 But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it.  http://bit.ly/1r4Dink

I was wondering what to share with you all  this day and I realized it was 7/7/14. So I decided to Google the date, 7/7/14 because I was sure it had some special meaning. Not only is this word special but it was just what I needed to hear in my life at this time. This popular passage of scripture speaks volumes in the most simplistic way.

The directions given in this scripture is for believers to ask whatever they will, seek and you will find what you are looking for and to knock and the doors shall  be opened for you. What a great formula for life and living in abundance. The golden rule is even used, in everything do others what you would have done to you.

Not only is this passage directional, it explains that you have choices in life. You can take the road (gate) that is narrow and it leads to a good life our you can take the wide gate (road) that leads to destruction from poor choices in life.

Today 7/7/14 has brought new eye-opening  meaning to me and I will forever look at it in a different light. The Word is a powerful tool and it will forever cover and carry me.

Happy Birthday Miss Zora Neale Hurston

Zora Neale Hurston's 123rd Birthday

In a place called Notasulga, Alabama  on January 7, 1891, Zora Neale was born  the fifth of eight children, to John Hurston, a carpenter and Baptist preacher, and Lucy Potts Hurston, a former schoolteacher. The family moved to the historic Town of Eatonville. Established in 1887, the rural community near Orlando was the nation’s first incorporated black township. It was, as Hurston described it, “a city of five lakes, three croquet courts, three hundred brown skins, three hundred good swimmers, plenty guavas, two schools, and no jailhouse.” http://zoranealehurston.com/about/

Today marks the 123rd birthday celebration of the prolific writer and anthropologist. A true Renaissance Woman, Miss Zora was always adding layers to colorful life. I am glad I was introduced to her as a young girl growing up in LA (lovely Augusta, Georgia) and I am glad to say I live a stone’s  throw away from Eatonville the place she called home for many years.

During the 1930’s and ’40’s Miss Zora was at the height of her  literary career she penned ,Their Eyes Were Watching God, in 1937; Tell My Horse, in 1938; Moses, Man of the Mountain, in 1939.  In 1942, Dust Tracks on a Road, was published and Miss Zora was getting some recognition for her brilliant works of art. Also in 1942,  Hurston  was profiled in Who’s Who in AmericaCurrent Biography and Twentieth Century Authors. In 1948, Miss Zora published another novel, Seraph on the Suwanee.

Miss Zora wrote many thought-provoking articles during the 1950’s that spoke to her outlook and insight on the plight and experience of the American Negro. After she had stroke in 1959, Miss Zora and was forced to live in a welfare home in St. Lucie and sadly died a year later. Unable to be properly laid to rest, Miss Zora was buried in an unmarked grave in the Garden of Heavenly Rest, in Fort Pierce, Florida. In the early ’70’s author Alice Walker gave this great lady, Miss Zora Neale Hurston back her dignity back by properly marking her burial site.

Today we salute your life, your living and your amazing legacy, Happy birthday Miss Zora!

The 100 Day SMART GOAL CHALLENGE   "The 100 Day SMART Goal Challenge"

Last week I made a stop in your track discovery. As I finished up my daily devotion from my YouVersion app on my phone, I was congratulated for completing my 265th day of study. It hit me…We had 100 days left in the year before we embarked on 2013.

Later that morning I had a conversation with a person who was turning 40 soon and was concerned that she did not know what she wanted to be when she grew up. I told her she was going to have to “represent” to join the 4.0 club! I then went into analyze mode and began to question her about what she like, loved and would do if she could and not worry about failing. The rapid line of questioning stunned her and then she became silent. Then offered that she needed help with establishing a goal. I said okay and then  she left my office . I went to Google and added Goal setting to the search box. I pulled up some information  and went looking for her in her work area. I left the papers in her chair and returned to my office.

Later that evening while out with friends, it came to me. I needed to do something significant in the 100 days to come. I then shared this with Dr. Loretta Faith Harris. I am going to establish an event to help others achieve their goal within the next 100 days. She smiled and I was ready to get home and let my fingers catch up with my mind.

I went to social media (my Facebook page) and created an event page. I decided to call the event, THE 100 DAY SMART GOAL CHALLENGE. I always thought of what I had learned in Goal Setting workshops and lessons. When you determined a GOAL you needed to make it SMART. The SMART acronym is Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic, Timely. This event would gather people who all want to accomplish something by January 1, 2013.  I was hyped and hoped I could get my Facebook  friends to come aboard and join the movement.  See the information below. Come on aboard and join us! #100Day #SMARTGOAL

The 100 Day SMART Goal Challenge is an opportunity for you to establish a task (large or small) and take the steps necessary to complete it by January 1, 2013. The “100 Day SMART Goal Challenge” event is a collective place where those who join can come together collectively as Accountability Partners to encourage and empower their selves and others. http://www.facebook.com/events/444796945573132/

POET’S NEVER DIE

Our words are lasting like the memories in the corners of our mind

Poet’s Never Die

What we share is worthy of pause by all who encounter our talents

Poet’s Never Die

What we express goes on,lives on, moves on but more importantly stays on

The paper,  the pen, the mind of the reader, and the heart of those touched by the words

Poet’s Never Die

They just get worn, like your favorite pair of shoes, they get weary, like a fighter at his last round who feels like giving up

Poet’s Never Die

Yet what keeps us, makes us appealing for the young and old alike

Poet’s Never Die

Consider the great artist who are dangerous with their stokes of the pen

Still their stories are picked up off of the shelves or the  subject of Google searches

Poet’s Never Die

As long as there are faces, places and spaces for seeking to have them  in their lives

Poet’s Never Die

Thoughts Escapes Me

Thought I thought I really had something to say
I think I know it just went away
I cannot believe the words found a place to hide
Usually the words are always on my side
Been sitting and staring at the page so bare
Looks real strange when the words aren’t there
What can I do beyond letting this time pass
I sure hope this dead space does not last
Tomorrow is another day
I need the word to show up and not play
I am held hostage at the mercy of the few words that appear
I will consider this a time of rest and hope the words are near
Thinking now these thoughtless thoughts to fill this space
I hope that Thursday Thinking soon returns to this place!
