A Brand New Kinda Me

New Year Happy! We have crossed the bridge from 2015 and into (#The16) as
I affectionately call this year! I am glad to be here in the land of the living as I saw so many transition from life to death last year. Bring on a new year and some positive living!

Well it is a new year and it brings the pressure of people struggling to make and not break resolutions. You know the drill of classics: lose weight/diet, go to the gym/workout, be more healthy/eat right, save money/stay on budget, quit smoking/get a patch, quit drinking/find substitutes, get organized/remove clutter and the list goes on and on! Many people find themselves “resolutions cycle” working hard but going nowhere fast or going to extremes to change habits only to fall short. Resolving to change should be gradual process to help you sustain the change.

In May of 2014, I started on a journey with my hair? See my stylist left town due to family issues. I was out sorts, my stylist was like family and took pride in using my crown as a show piece. My hair styles were always conversation pieces. I was able to maintain my style until July, but not ready for a new stylist. I just hopes she would return and get my mane in order.

In July, I moved from weaves to wigs. I had no idea of the big business of wigs. There are millions of styles, colors, lengths and such. What looks good on a wig head may do everything or nothing for you. It is work, until you find works for you. My biggest dilemma was trying to find a wig like the last look my stylist had hooked me up with. I never could find the Oprah curl pattern…

As I wore the wigs as a cover, I let the perm and chemicals grow out of my hair. What a process? It had been more years than I could recall for me to not have “creamy crack” perm, in my hair making the kinky curls straight. The transition back made me learn about natural hair and how to care for it. Having a bestie that is the epitome of a “Natural girl” helped me appreciate my hair.

I would wash, braid, or twist my hair and then cap my hair before putting on my wig to go out. Many would ask why be a “wiggy”, as they missed those cute styles I always rocked. The genius of my stylist was gone and I was finding my new wiggy styles to compensate.

On January 1, 2016 I decided the wig days had come to a close and I donned my hair in twists style for an annual New Years day gathering. There was much conversation about the new do! I had now fully joined #teamnatural. It is A Brand New Kinda Me… and I love it!  So stay with me and let’s where this affair goes…

2013 YoTrip-Words and Thoughts In Review

The WordPress.com stats helper monkeys prepared a 2013 annual report for this blog.

Here’s an excerpt:

A San Francisco cable car holds 60 people. This blog was viewed about 1,500 times in 2013. If it were a cable car, it would take about 25 trips to carry that many people.

Thursday Thinking by YoTrip for 12/2/2010-YOU CAN DO THIS! (Vol.7, Iss.1)

I happened to be reviewing my blog drafts and  this is one of the post that  found itself on blog room floor. I thought this was timely and relevant enough to share with to others. We are 20 days away from the start of 2014 and now is a great time to challenge yourself to get a goal or two and do your best to achieve them.
Who knew that #The100DaySmart Goal Challenge was welling up in me 3 year ago.  The best things in life take time… Your time is now! Make sure to let me know your progress.
December is here and the year of 2010 is coming to a close. As you enter into the last month of the year, now is the time to decide on how to make a great exit. The game is still is going on for the next 30 days. Recognize that there is still time to enter into the game, if you have been sidelined. If you are in the game but have not scored, you still have time to make it happen. Stop right now and say to yourself: YOU CAN DO THIS! Speaking these four words into the atmosphere is a powerful self-affirmation. Let these next 30 days be the start to you meeting the smallest goal or making the biggest shot in your life!

goal (Photo credit: Sean MacEntee)

Are you ready to challenge and stretch yourself to accomplish your goal?
Do you believe YOU CAN DO THIS?
What are your barriers to achieving your goal?
Are you willing to write down your goal(s)?
Are you willing to share your belief in YOU CAN DO THIS! with others?
Can you envision yourself achieving your goal?
What resources do you need to help you achieve your goal?
YOU CAN DO THIS! Keep telling yourself that you can make your goal a reality. If looking at 30 days is too overwhelming to you, then break the month down into weeks. Each week you can set a mini-goal for yourself, and continue to say YOU CAN DO THIS! One week will turn into two weeks and then you are working into three weeks and before you realize it you have come to four weeks. YOU CAN DO THIS!
December has come and will leave in another 30 days. Will you exit the month of December the same way you entered the month of December? YOU CAN DO THIS! Whatever your goal, your dream, or your desire is today, decided that this is a good day to take the steps to making it happen! YOU CAN DO THIS!

YoTrip Chooses to LIVE LIFE 4/16/13

Great day in the morning folks! Decide right now to LIVE your life in the spirit of peace. #GDMF374

Chooses To LIVE LIFE

In the mist of all this darkness, disaster, and doom
I choose to LIVE and get beyond the gloom
It is so easy to soak it up and be consumed with it all
Now is the time to LIVE and not fold and fall
We must now take an action and that is to LIVE
Make it your business to go on and give
Never will we get this time to LIVE over again
So just choose life and go right on and win
We can make a thousand excuses and stay stuck in place
Or we can move now and start running the LIFE race
So LIVE life for the ones who gave LIFE without a reason
Take if from me now is the LIVE LIFE season.
Yo Trip ~~4/16/13

Tuesday Thoughts by YoTrip for January 17, 2012-LIVE THE DREAM (Vol.1, Iss.3)

English: Dr. Martin Luther King giving his &qu...

Image via Wikipedia

“Yesterday we dared to dream, today we continue to find ways to live the dream.”~YoTrip

Over the last few days the hopes and dreams of the late, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. were recited by the young and old, black and white, the poor and rich all over the nation. It is the words that the great orator, Dr. King that spoke of a time when we lived in harmony and equality was available for all men. For  last forty years since Dr. King’s death, we have heard the message  “dare to dream” and then find ways to Live the Dream. Dr. King believed that his dreams were within reach and could be achieved by the efforts of all people.

Live the Dream is a call to action that all can choose to embrace. How do you view the world? Where do you see yourself in the world? What can you do to make the world better? Why is it important for you to Live the Dream? When will you start to do your part to Live the Dream? These questions are posed to help you put your thinking cap on and let your mind go to work.

Today and always find the path to Live the Dream by living your dreams. Let your dreams be your guide, your driver, your reason for seeking to be and do more. Live the Dream and know that when you dream, you keep your mind open to the infinite opportunities waiting for you on the horizon. To Live the Dream gives honor to the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

I Am Tired

I must admit and I say it loud, I Am Tired. I know my body has caught up with my mind. Here me when I tell you I Am Tired, I Am Tired and I am seeking a place of rest. It is only Tuesday and it feels like I have worked up a week’s work of work, I Am Tired. I push and go and rarely stop, but now my spirit is seeking to slow it down, I Am Tired. Excuse me, forgive me please know I Am Tired and I need to rest!  It is alright to say I Am Tired. I am going to get some rest! How about you? ~~YoTrip

Thursday Thinking by YoTrip for July 14, 2011-JUST EIGHT THINGS…(Vol.7, Iss.2)

1.You were born to live
2.Dying is not a better option
3.Find something to trigger your inner and outter funny
4.Release all those happy feelings
5. It beats spreading hate
6.It still makes the world go around
7. Always stay open to the opportunity to know new things
8. It stimulates your mind
The more I keep hearing these four words, the more I realize how important they should be in our daily activity. In this world that is pushing us, pulling us, patting us up and down we all can take some time of personal insight and LIVE more, LAUGH more, LOVE more, and LEARN more! I am vowing to incorporate these four L’s into my way of existing.
Often we search for a complex solutions, when we just need to see the resolve in the simple things. As I sat and looked at the eight things, I see them as interchangeable in any of the four areas. Let me challenge you: For the next week make it your focus to find ways to LIVE better, LAUGH better, LOVE better, and LEARN better. Record how you were able to accomplish these things and if you think it will help someone do not be afraid to share (knowledge is power!).
I am getting excited and I am looking forward to some great results. So start now the four L’s are waiting on you…

Tuesday Thoughts for June 21, 2011- It is Officially Summertime! (Vol.3, Iss.3)

It is Officially Summertime!

June 21st is the official first day of the season known as Summer. Anyone who lives in the “Sunshine State“, Florida  finds it laughable that we have finally arrived at Summer, especially since we have experienced unseasonably warm weather since February. Summer is here and it appears that the sun is shining brightly and feeling like it is at a boiling point. It is just plain HOT!

Please do not take this my observations as a complaint on the season of summer. I am grateful for the warm weather when I can look at the path of destruction that swept through the northern, western and southern parts of country with tornadoes, wind storms, lighting, and flooding. The images of ripped up crops, communities, and culture is a sad sight and that lends itself to the need for us to count our blessings and keep those millions of people in our continual thoughts and prayers.

As we handle the heat and the late-day rain showers, that come like clock work, we can say it is officially summertime. For the next 100 hundred days people will find places and spaces to visit and enjoy the summer season. Living in the Sunshine state it is a magnet for people to come and have a ball in the sunny weather. From Mickey Mouse and Disney, to  Harry Potter, Sea World and Shamu and all things this magical region can provide, people will come in droves to get a piece of the summertime fun and sun in Florida!

These summertime days will come and go quickly, so make sure you do not let them pass you by without finding a way to enjoy them! Welcome Summer and all it has to offer as a season of the year! What took you so long to finally show up down here? Have a great summer season doing whatever you call fun.

Thurdsday Thinking by YoTrip for June 16, 2011-Father’s Deserve A Special Day (Vol.6, Iss.3)

Dad’s Deserve A Special Day

The third Sunday in June has been designated as Father’s Day in the United States. Credit for originating the holiday is generally given to Sonora Smart Dodd of Spokane, Washington, whose father, a Civil War veteran, raised her and her five siblings after their mother died in childbirth. She is said to have had the idea in 1909 while listening to a sermon on Mother’s Day, which at the time was becoming established as a holiday. Local religious leaders supported the idea, and the first Father’s Day was celebrated on June 19, 1910, the month of the birthday of Dodd’s father. In 1924 President Calvin Coolidge gave his support to the observance, and in 1966 President Lyndon B. Johnson officially proclaimed it a national holiday. Observance on the third Sunday of June was decreed by law in 1972.

Although it was originally largely a religious holiday, Father’s Day has been commercialized with the sending of greeting cards and the giving of gifts.http://www.history.com/topics/fathers-day

Father’s deserve a special day for being who they are: the giver of life, the leader of the family, the protector, the provider, the professor in the lives of those are their children. Father’s day lives in the shadow of Mother’s Day, as it recognizes Dad’s for who they are and what they do for their families.

I am thankful and honored to know and have known some great father’s. My grandfather the late Joe L. Anderson, was the father of my Mother and her six siblings. He was big in statute and every bigger in heart and spirit. My granddaddy, was a driving force and a history maker, as the first black deputy sheriff in Richmond County/Augusta, Georgia. The presence of granddaddy in his deputy uniform is fresh in my mind like I was staring up at him, through my six year old eyes. I learned so many things from him and I am glad I had him in my life.

My father, the late William Henry Clay, Sr. was a father of father’s. Dad’s infectious personality drew people to him, he could always make a friend. People enjoyed how he lived life open, giving, hard-working, and always pushing for being better by doing better. A business man, he was “the Black Colonel” as he managed the neighborhood Kentucky Fried Chicken. A servant, as he worked with the Volunteer Grandparents program. A surrogate, he became a “Dad” to so many who were “fatherless” in the community. I am proud to have been apart of his life, living and his legacy for twenty-one years.

Father’s deserve to have this Sunday as their special day. Everyone should do their part to honor your own father or some father who has been a father to you during your life. Father’s I wish you all the best on Sunday as we pause to celebrate the strength and greatness of fatherhood.
