Pecan Memories

Pecan Memories©2016

A walk in the orchards

From times past

My grandma would gather us grands

Three, five, or seven of us in a row

Walking along to her favorite spot

Cool crisp air we can feel it

Leaves crunching under foot

A bag in each helpers hand

We are on a mission

Find those pecans

Mom and I took a walk today

In a place called Serenity

We felt an air of familiar

The leaves crunched under our feet

Bags in our hands

A mission we were on it

Find those pecans

And we did!

I could feel the spirit of grandma

Moving in us, walking with us

In our hands, were her hands

The beloved pecan

Brought back so many memories!
For my grandma, Ruth Anderson

For my momma, Marian A. Clay

A Brand New Kinda Me

New Year Happy! We have crossed the bridge from 2015 and into (#The16) as
I affectionately call this year! I am glad to be here in the land of the living as I saw so many transition from life to death last year. Bring on a new year and some positive living!

Well it is a new year and it brings the pressure of people struggling to make and not break resolutions. You know the drill of classics: lose weight/diet, go to the gym/workout, be more healthy/eat right, save money/stay on budget, quit smoking/get a patch, quit drinking/find substitutes, get organized/remove clutter and the list goes on and on! Many people find themselves “resolutions cycle” working hard but going nowhere fast or going to extremes to change habits only to fall short. Resolving to change should be gradual process to help you sustain the change.

In May of 2014, I started on a journey with my hair? See my stylist left town due to family issues. I was out sorts, my stylist was like family and took pride in using my crown as a show piece. My hair styles were always conversation pieces. I was able to maintain my style until July, but not ready for a new stylist. I just hopes she would return and get my mane in order.

In July, I moved from weaves to wigs. I had no idea of the big business of wigs. There are millions of styles, colors, lengths and such. What looks good on a wig head may do everything or nothing for you. It is work, until you find works for you. My biggest dilemma was trying to find a wig like the last look my stylist had hooked me up with. I never could find the Oprah curl pattern…

As I wore the wigs as a cover, I let the perm and chemicals grow out of my hair. What a process? It had been more years than I could recall for me to not have “creamy crack” perm, in my hair making the kinky curls straight. The transition back made me learn about natural hair and how to care for it. Having a bestie that is the epitome of a “Natural girl” helped me appreciate my hair.

I would wash, braid, or twist my hair and then cap my hair before putting on my wig to go out. Many would ask why be a “wiggy”, as they missed those cute styles I always rocked. The genius of my stylist was gone and I was finding my new wiggy styles to compensate.

On January 1, 2016 I decided the wig days had come to a close and I donned my hair in twists style for an annual New Years day gathering. There was much conversation about the new do! I had now fully joined #teamnatural. It is A Brand New Kinda Me… and I love it!  So stay with me and let’s where this affair goes…

It Been 20 Years…

This week marks the anniversary of my arrival in the land of Mickey (Orlando) from the land of Country Music (Nashville). It is funny how the time has passed  as I reflect back to that face, that place, that space of January 1994…

In the days to come I will recall, revisit and remember the journey from Nashville or shall I say Antioch, Tennessee to Orlando, Florida.

It seems like yesterday when I received the call from my husband (yes I was a “Mrs.” back then. Another post for another time) saying the company (Olive Garden/OG) had accepted the proposal we developed, was ready to move forward and move us to sunny Orlando, Florida.

I was a ball of emotions trying to take in the fact that we were leaving Nashville (a place that had grown to be home in my three years there) and heading southward to Orlando. This was it.

Before we moved the OG brought us down for a visit and to help with the transition. We stayed at the then Adams Mark Hotel which is attached to the Florida Mall. While my husband met with his new bosses, I hung out at the mall and planned for our upcoming moving date and looked at where I would work once we settled in to Orlando.

During our visit we were wined and dined with Presidents and Vice Presidents and other corporate big wigs.

Our time in Orlando was fun and full of relaxation. I arrived in Nashville in relation mode. Over the next month, I was in relocation mode. I had to be ready when the movers arrived.

This move was apart of our dream. All we had to do was be ready to go forward. It was still scary going to a new lands. A co-worker knew I loved by Dr. Maya Angelou so she gave me the book,” I Won’t Take Nothing For My Journey”, the title speaks volumes to where we were going.

On Dr. Martin Luther King,Jr weekend in January 1994 Tim, Snoopy (the dog) and I headed to Augusta, Georgia to see my family and friends and to rest.

After 20 years, I have had some ups and downs, some wins and some loss. I am here and still standing. I can truly say, The Best Is Yet To Come!

YoTrip Presents: Sometimes It Is Not Meant To Be 082193

Peace: It does not mean to be in a place where...

Peace: It does not mean to be in a place where there is no trouble, no noise or hard work. It means to be in the midst of all these things and still be calm in your heart. (Photo credit: deeplifequotes)

Sometimes It Is Not Meant To Be

Twenty years have come and gone
What started out great, did not last that long
Sometimes it is not meant to be
We do not hold, know, or can see beyond now
Our time is present, and we have hope for our future
Sometimes it is not meant to be
All the plans made, they fizzle and fade…away
You look back and you wonder…Why?
Sometimes it is not meant to be
How did we go from always and forever
To this cannot last past our heart-filled dreams
Sometimes it is not meant to be
As the days turn to weeks,  and then turn into months and  finally years
The memory of what was, merely dims out slowly, like a flickering flame
Sometimes it is not meant to be
Then you look around and twenty years have passed and you wonder
About the should a’s and the would a’s of your life
Sometimes it is not meant to be
Yet you cannot grab back what has faded away, the moments, the memory came and served their purpose
The assignment was complete and you move on
Sometimes it is not meant to be
You look back at the path and thank God for the journey
Where you came from is a stepping stone to where you are going
Sometimes it is not meant to be
Then the light guides you to the revelation that
Sometimes It Is Not Meant To Be…FOREVER!

YoTrip Presents: I Am NOT That Girl Anymore

YoTrip

YoTrip

Over 90 days ago I penned this poem as a declaration of how I want my life to be different in the years to come. I have availed myself to people out of a desire to please and twisted obligation. I have decided to free myself and allowing others to find another path to accomplishing their programs and processes. I will unapologetically, choose my who, what when, where, why and how. I am not mad or sad, but more than anything else I Am Not That Girl Anymore! Happy Birthday to me 7/29/13
I Am Not That Girl Anymore

You know the one who could effortlessly gets it done

I Am Not That Girl Anymore

You know the one who had all her balls up in the air at once

I Am Not That Girl Anymore

You know the one who worked from both ends of the candle and clock

I Am Not That Girl Anymore

You know the one who did not blink when you added to her things to do list

I Am Not That Girl Anymore

You know the one that opened up and closed out the events

I Am Not That Girl Anymore

You know the one that had one word she used for every request: YES

I Am Not That Girl Anymore

You know the one that everyone expects to “handle it”

I Am Not That Girl Anymore

You know the one that never forgets birthdays, anniversaries, or any day

I Am Not That Girl Anymore

You know the one who was tough as nails and could take it all on

I Am Not That Girl Anymore

You know the one that lived for the rush and rushed to live

I Am Not That Girl Anymore

You know the one who kept it all together from top to bottom

I Am Not That Girl Anymore

You know the one that could make something out of nothing

I Am Not That Girl Anymore

You know the one that worked on projects  from pillar to post

I Am Not That Girl Anymore

You know the one who was like the energizer Bunny always on the go

I Am Not That Girl Anymore

You know the one who was always happy to accommodate everyone

I Am Not That Girl Anymore

You know the one who waited and even carried the weight

I Am Not That Girl Anymore

You know the one who could just fix it

I Am Not That Girl Anymore

You know the one who sought to make everyone happy

I Am Not That Girl Anymore

You know the one who never gets tired

I Am Not That Girl Anymore

You know the one who has the headband, cape, belt, and boots –Wonder Woman

I Am Not That Girl Anymore

You know the one who did it now and worried about how later

I Am Not That Girl Anymore

You know the one who was always in the know

I Am Not That Girl Anymore

You know the one who brought order, made the order, or gave the order

I Am Not That Girl Anymore

You know the one that was always seeking perfection

I Am Not That Girl Anymore

You know the one filling in and feeling it no matter what

I Am Not That Girl Anymore

You know the one a centerpiece always in the middle

I Am Not That Girl Anymore

You know the one who affirmed the “I’m Every Woman” Syndrome

I Am Not That Girl Anymore

You know the one who cared for everybody but not for herself

I Am Not That Girl Anymore

You know the one that welcomed more to do

I Am Not That Girl Anymore

You know the one who did until it was done

I Am Not That Girl Anymore

You know the one who was both careful and caring

I Am Not That Girl Anymore

You know the one who aimed to please and was pleased to aim for all targets

I Am Not That Girl Anymore

You know the one who always answered the call

I Am Not That Girl Anymore

It is a new day and I am walking into it!

Wait or Weight

Have you ever  had to WAIT  on some people. place or possession to become available?

Did you fee like while you were in the mist of your WAIT you were carrying WEIGHT

The time that you were in your period of WAIT made you really focus on the WEIGHT of all your concerns

It is funny that as you WAIT (expecting something to occur) that you find that WEIGHT feels like it’s coming down on your world

Have you ever looked at why you WAIT and wonder how the WEIGHT gets so heavy

You have  heard the phrases: “It is worth the WAIT” or “WAIT on the Lord and be of good cheer” or “You are worth your WEIGHT in gold” or “If you want to get things done you may have to push your WEIGHT around”. The WAIT and the WEIGHT can be active and things take place or passive and actions occurs.

When you WAIT while watching your WEIGHT, you will see the patient hope from what was the WAIT or WEIGHT to what you can become! There is power in the WAIT and the WEIGHT in your life.

What are you doing during the WAIT? What WEIGHT is holding you back?

Who makes you WAIT? Who works with you regarding your WEIGHT?

When is it hard to WAIT? When does WEIGHT get in the way?

Where is the best place to WAIT? Where is the worst place for WEIGHT to form?

WAIT OR WEIGHT both can be heavy and light

YoTrip’s Word For The Day: Blessings

Blessed

Blessed (Photo credit: Nastassia Davis [www.nastassiadavis.com])

BLESSINGS: AN ACT OF ENCOURAGEMENT

Do you realize the blessings in your life? Most people will say yes without even thinking about it. We wake up in the morning and our minds are filled with all that we have to complete on our to do list. Did you say “thank you Lord” for my life, health and seeing another day? No you were so consumed with all the things that you wished you had. You forgot about the roof that covers your head at night, the closets you have busting over with clothes, you cannot see the floor for all the shoes that cover it. There is a choice of food items in your refrigerator, you have multiple bathrooms in your home, you drive a vehicle to your destinations and you have a job! All that is a blessing!
This morning as I was on my way to work I went off the normal path and stopped at a different place for coffee. The parking lot was busy with cars coming in and going out in a hurry. I looked out my passenger window and saw her slowing approaching the entrance of the store. This woman was wearing a heavy coat, a hat on her head and layers of tattered clothes in this Florida heat. The woman’s slowness was probably due to the fact that she pulled all her belongings behind her in an old suitcase.
I rushed into the store unfamiliar with the setup seeking coffee. I found the coffee counter and looked for my favorite flavor. Begin to assemble the perfect blend of Joe, and looked for the bananas. I did not see the bananas around the coffee and asked the attendant who directed me to the front counter. I walked toward the front counter and encountered the woman as she carried a 64 oz cup of some red juice and looking at the change in her hand as if she did not have enough for this drink to quench her thirst. As our eyes met, I spoke and so did she, I asked if she would like something else to go with the drink. The woman nodded yes and pointed to the wings in the warmer. I asked the attendant to get her some wings. The woman looked back at me and I said get something else if you like, she whispered “one more thing” my heart danced at that moment. I received the blessing as I gave a blessing to the woman.
The blessing was the act of encouragement I received from the woman. The humility I saw in this woman’s eyes brought me to a place to acknowledge that we must recognize our blessings one by one. Our blessings may seem small but they are the gifts that God has bestowed upon us. I am thankful for each and every blessing that I received today?
Can you share a story of a blessing you received recently? Let me hear back from you, comment below.
