Thursday Thinking by YoTrip for September 27, 2012-The 100 Day SMART GOAL CHALLENGE (Vol,9. Iss.4)

The 100 Day SMART GOAL CHALLENGE   "The 100 Day SMART Goal Challenge"

Last week I made a stop in your track discovery. As I finished up my daily devotion from my YouVersion app on my phone, I was congratulated for completing my 265th day of study. It hit me…We had 100 days left in the year before we embarked on 2013.

Later that morning I had a conversation with a person who was turning 40 soon and was concerned that she did not know what she wanted to be when she grew up. I told her she was going to have to “represent” to join the 4.0 club! I then went into analyze mode and began to question her about what she like, loved and would do if she could and not worry about failing. The rapid line of questioning stunned her and then she became silent. Then offered that she needed help with establishing a goal. I said okay and then  she left my office . I went to Google and added Goal setting to the search box. I pulled up some information  and went looking for her in her work area. I left the papers in her chair and returned to my office.

Later that evening while out with friends, it came to me. I needed to do something significant in the 100 days to come. I then shared this with Dr. Loretta Faith Harris. I am going to establish an event to help others achieve their goal within the next 100 days. She smiled and I was ready to get home and let my fingers catch up with my mind.

I went to social media (my Facebook page) and created an event page. I decided to call the event, THE 100 DAY SMART GOAL CHALLENGE. I always thought of what I had learned in Goal Setting workshops and lessons. When you determined a GOAL you needed to make it SMART. The SMART acronym is Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic, Timely. This event would gather people who all want to accomplish something by January 1, 2013.  I was hyped and hoped I could get my Facebook  friends to come aboard and join the movement.  See the information below. Come on aboard and join us! #100Day #SMARTGOAL

The 100 Day SMART Goal Challenge is an opportunity for you to establish a task (large or small) and take the steps necessary to complete it by January 1, 2013. The “100 Day SMART Goal Challenge” event is a collective place where those who join can come together collectively as Accountability Partners to encourage and empower their selves and others. http://www.facebook.com/events/444796945573132/

Tuesday Thoughts by YoTrip for September 25, 2012-The PUSH (Vol.9, Iss.

PUSH

PUSH (Photo credit: Steve Snodgrass)

THE PUSH

In the birthing process you cannot get to the delivery without THE PUSH.  The labor process is rarely seen as easy, it is where you start to put in the work. The PUSH, or act of PUSHING moves you closer to delivery. The intensity of THE PUSH takes major effort on the part of the pusher.

Are you in the mist of THE PUSH in your life? Is it hard or is it easy as you labor towards delivery? What will you deliver? Now is the time to focus as you are in the final stretch of THE PUSH.

Keep telling yourself that THE PUSH has a greater  reward, THE DELIVERY!

Do you want to make your PUSH matter? Then join us for The 100m Day SMART GOAL CHALLENGE http://www.facebook.com/events/444796945573132/

Thursday Thinking by YoTrip for September 20, 2012-Lessons From A Legend (Vol.9, Iss.

Ex-Laney football coach David Dupree, seen here with some trophies at the school in 2007, won 209 games at Laney and was the first black coach elected to the Georgia Sports Hall of Fame. He died Wednesday at 88. FILE/STAFF

LANEY’S LEGEND

NAME: David Dupree

RECORD: 209-60-13

STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS WON: Two (1961, 1966)

YEARS COACHED: 26

NOTABLE: In 1992, was the first black football coach inducted into the Georgia Sports Hall of Fame http://bit.ly/OI9CNs

Lessons From A Legend

Last Wednesday, September 12, 2012, time on this side of the world stopped as Coach David Dupree went from glory to reward. The 88 year-old former sideline walker was the long-time leader of the Lucy Craft Laney High School football team.  For close to three decades, Coach Dupree built a reputation on taking young impressionable boys and helping them become influential young men with the game of football and education as the driving vehicles.

Coach Dupree touched the hearts and minds of so many, not just the athlete’s, but all students who walked the halls of  “Dear ‘ol Laney High”. In statue, Coach Dupree had a presence that made you know he meant business and it earned his a great measure of respect.

On the football field, Coach Dupree expected nothing less than the best from all of his players. From the smallest little tight end to the big defensive back, every player mattered and was apart of putting the “T” in Team. Wearing the Red, Gray, and white school colors, Coach Dupree exemplified “The Pride” of a Laney Wildcat and he wore it well.

Four years ago, Coach Dupree was honored with a naming ceremony, when the newly built football stadium was named after him. What a humbling moment to have all those days of sweat and hard work payoff with a place you could be proud of and show the essence of the what you valued in the playing of the game.

The Lessons From A Legend, Coach David Dupree live on in the foundation of football, the empowerment of education and the lasting legacy he left on and off the field of life.

Rest so peaceful Coach Dupree…

Tuesday Thoughts by YoTrip for September 18, 2012-Are You In Labor? (Vol.9, Iss.3)

Labor Pain

Labor Pain (Photo credit: ekea7)

Are You In Labor?

A few weeks ago at the onset of the month of September, I found my mind wandering and pondering the process of labor. According to Meriman-Webster online, labor is defined, “to exert  one’s powers of body or mind especially with painful or strenuous effort. WORK to give birth, to suffer from  some disadvantage or distress.  To move with great effort ” http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/labor

Yes labor as in WORK performed or that period of time that the female species endures the seemingly point of pain with a result of giving birth.  I have a question for you: Are You In Labor?

I know I hear and see you shouting, laughing,  kicking and screaming that you are not having a baby. But again I ask, are you in labor? Yes I mean imagine yourself  like the pregnant mother carrying her dream, her hope, her joy and now after experiencing a breakthrough (water), you have arrived at a state of being in labor.

Much like the expectant mother your labor is the sharp pain that force you to a place of getting ready and prepared for birth. Are you in labor? The pain and power mixture will not give you a  moments rest until you have birthed your “baby”. The dream will not die, the hope will not harvest, the promise will not prosper until your labor is over and your delivery complete. Are you in labor?

Clear your mind of the mother carrying child and see yourself in the state of succession from labor to reward. Are you in labor? You are carrying  the hopping hope, the darling dream, the precious promise that is kicking and yelling wanting to get out of your body. Are you in labor?

Challenge yourself to move from labor to delivery. Listen to me, this won’t be easy,it could hurt, and you may want to give up.  You must do one thing…PUSH!

Tuesday Thoughts by YoTrip for September 11, 2012- FOREVER HEROES (Vol.9, Iss.2)

911 Hero's

911 Hero’s (Photo credit: fauxto_digit)

FOREVER HEROES

I can’t even imagine or see with my mind’s eye

After all these years still stuck with the one word…WHY!

Barreling through the sky, using the airways to attack

Caught totally off guard you can’t fight back

Utter chaos erupts at the drop of a dime

Comes at you fast in little or no time

Terror rears it ugly head

Before you know it countless numbers are dead

In the truest sense of service, the forever heroes steps in

Doing their part to help protect and defend

Working without cease dedicated to the cause

Annually we reflect, remember and pause

To lift up the countless whose lives were lost

And you the Forever Heroes, giving unselfishly at all cost

Our lives and our living changed that day

Barriers of protection, security checks became the way

Forever Heroes we say thank you for giving it your all

On point, heard bell, responded and answered the call.

Thank you for then, and thank you now, thank you Forever Heroes.

Walk Into Your Season

I feel seasons everywhere and

I feel blessings in the air

those seeds that you’ve sown

your gonna come into your own

seasons walk into your season. http://bit.ly/UwzlXV

As the hot and lazy days of summer come to a close, it signals that soon we will move into the season of fall/autumn. The month of September brings forth a change or shift in the air and surroundings. The heat dial starts to come down and a cool breeze is an undertone that you start to feel in the sunshine state and other areas of the south.

Take the challenge and embrace this shift in the atmosphere. As the winds of cool stir let it take you and move you forward. What better time for a new start, a new beginning . Give yourself permission to Walk Into Your Season. This time, this moment is yours to move one foot in front of the other and take what are your hopes and dreams. Just commit to doing things differently, start to Walk Into Your Season.

Lay aside fear, doubt, unbelief, haters and any obstacles that in your way. Now more than ever you must see yourself going in this new direction in your life, Walk Into Your Season. Turn your fear into faith, your doubt into determination, unbelief into understanding, haters into helpers and obstacles into opportunities. Do it now Walk Into Your Season.

Ready or not the time is moving on and going forward you can decide to let it pass you by or you can get to stepping and boldly Walk Into Your Season.
