YoTrip-Words and Thoughts

A place and space for me to express my thoughts

Thursday Thinking by YoTrip for March 22, 2012-Empowered in Education, Dr. Barbara Jenkins (Vol.3, Iss.4)

Empowered in Education, Dr. Barbara Jenkins

“I consider it a tremendous honor and a privilege to have worked in public education for the past 21 years. Throughout my career I have aspired to higher levels of leadership because of an undying passion for education and what it must mean in the lives of our youth. I believe that every child can learn at a high level when educators and a community take a relentless attitude toward making that learning a reality. I want to be a part of that reality someday as superintendent of an urban school district.” Dr. Barbara Jenkins

In March 2012, Barbara Jenkins was appointed as the superintendent (effective May 15, 2012) for Orange County Public Schools in Orlando, Fla., the tenth largest district in the country with more than 173,000 students. Prior to this role, Jenkins served as deputy superintendent in Orange County Public Schools. In that role she supervised the Division of Teaching and Learning including area superintendents. She previously served as chief of staff for the district and before that as chief human resources officer. click here to read the rest of Dr. Jenkins story: http://www.broadacademy.org/fellows/46_Barbara+Jenkins.html?page_filter=0

Join me in saluting Dr. Jenkins as she embarks on a new journey as the head of the Orange County Public School system,  10th largest school district in the country.
