Thursday Thinking by YoTrip for January 13,2011-Triumph in the Wake of Tragedy (Vol.1, Iss.2)
Oprah Winfrey spoke the truth when she was quoted on how life will present you with tragedy but triumph is always possible. Everyday someone has to look tragedy in the face and wonder why me? How did this happen? Why is this happening? What did I do to deserve this? Will I ever get over this? It is when we find ourselves having to answer these questions and countless others that the decision is made on how to move from the tragedy and on to the triumph.
The innate human side of us is not readily equipped to find our way from tragedy to triumph. The unexpected appearance of tragedy on our doorsteps requires us to address people, places or possessions we were not prepared to deal with in that moment. Tragedy can make us, shake us, and take us out of our routine and into a downward spiral. At some point every person must see the tragedy not as a way of life but as a stop on the pathway of their journey.
How do you find triumph in the wake of tragedy? When you decide that the present state of tragedy is something you can rise above, get over, and move pass to triumph. The activity of rising above, getting over and moving pass tragedy is different for everyone. Triumph is attainable when you are ready to see yourself overcoming the tragic state you are in and finding yourself in a triumphant place.
The heartbreak and heartache of tragedy comes (the devastating blow of an earthquake that shakes the nation of Haiti, the terror and trauma of the Tucson shootings and the list goes on) yet it is up to every person to find the strength, hope and courage to see the triumph. ~~YoTrip
