YoTrip-Words and Thoughts

A place and space for me to express my thoughts

“I Just Called To Say I Love You”

Stevie Wonder

No New Year’s Day to celebrate
No chocolate covered candy hearts to give away
No first of spring
No song to sing
In fact here’s just another ordinary day

No April rain
No flowers bloom
No wedding Saturday within the month of June
But what it is, is something true
Made up of these three words that I must say to you

I just called to say I love you
I just called to say how much I care
I just called to say I love you
And I mean it from the bottom of my heart

This simple song with the catchy tune was written and produced by the musical genuis Stevland Hardaway Judkins a.k.a. Stevie Wonder in 1984. Mr. Wonder, chose to wrap his compelling declaration of LOVE around yearly events and the use of the telephone to offer three words: I Love You. As we walk toward one of the most celebrated days of the year (Valentine’s Day), let’s consider looking at it from a different point of view.

Countless millions will be spent in the coming days on fine jewels, flowers, chocolates, cards, dinners, stuffed animals and other gifts to show expressions of LOVE. I know that women (especially) look forward to being on the recieving end of these gifts, for those who LOVE them. This also a time for men get so many romance points for stepping up their LOVE game on Valentine’s Day. I ask this: Once the newness of the jewels fade, the flowers wilt, candy is eaten and the cards are tucked away, does the LOVE remain? Are we hyped on the 24 hours to obtain the short term satisfaction of things and not focusing on those three words? I LOVE YOU can go a long way and have lasting effects as it can be given and shown over and over again.

As you prepare for Valentine’s day as the giver or the reciever of affections, seek to make lasting impressions on those who have a place in your heart. Start today to follow the in the footprints of the lyrics, keep or start using those three simple words, I LOVE YOU. Call, write, text, or email those you love. Ponder the possibilities of positivity when you make LOVE a real part of your everyday living. Come on sing it with me: “I just called to say I LOVE YOU, I just called to say I care. I just called to say I LOVE YOU and I mean it from the bottom of my heart.”

Everyday is a day we can show LOVE to others.
