Can I Have Some M&M’s?
(Meaningful Moments Matter Most)

The popular candy M&M’s were created in 1941 in Newark, New Jersey by Forrest Mars, Sr. after he was inspired to create the candies after seeing soldiers eating hard shelled candy pellets during the Spanish Civil War of the 1930’s. Mr. Mars began a partnership with Bruce Murrie, whose father was the president of the Hershey chocolate company, thus the M&M, a hard shelled round candy in six colors was born. The M&M’s were packaged in cellophane tubes and During World War II, M&M’s were sold exclusively to the military for the soldiers, as an energy snack. In 1950, the “M” was imprinted on the candy as a unique trademark, in 1954 M&M’s added peanuts to the popular hard shell candy. M&M’s are the official candy for space exploration since 1982, named the official snack for the 1984 Olympics, and in 2007 begin an offering of personalize candies (17 colors) that consumers can custom print and give as gifts. For over six decades, the M&M has made some meaningful moments that matter most in history. (www.M&M.com the Historical time line for M&M’s)

Can I Have some M&M’s? Those meaningful moments that matter most, are the times that stay with us in the corners of our minds. The M&M’s cause us to cry (holding your newborn baby for the first time), laugh (at a joke told to you by others), scream (stomping your toe), shout (you finally accomplished that goal). The M&M’s are the little things that leave a footprint in your memory bank and are deposited for future use.

Can I Have some M&M’s? This morning I woke up with a mind to write and expound on a few M&M’s in my life. Well we can never know the journey of a day and the path it will take. I was was set on focusing on some “ME Moments” (M&M’s), but as fate and a phone call would have it my day was starting off a little differently.

There are times when we need to make our “ME Moments” take a backseat and give way to M&M’s for others. The distress and panic in the voice of the caller this morning required me to take quick action. The action was a simple but necessary, be still and LISTEN. The M&M’s for the caller was achieved by having me offer a listening ear and an encouraging word.

Sometimes in our daily grind we are so caught up in the living thing, that we miss the opportunity to give some M&M’s or get some M&M’s. It is in these time created moments that meaning is giving to things that really matter. Shifting our focal point to meet the needs of others is such a selfless act that could be exercised more in our society. We can never know when we take time for others, what kind of M&M’s we are sharing or creating.

So again I wonder, Can I get some M&M’s? Or better yet can I give some M&M’s?

A period tells you that is that. With a semicolon you get a pleasant little feeling of expectancy ; there is more to come; read on; it will get clearer.
