Tuesday Thoughts by YoTrip Auntie Ruth and YoTrip @ 24 Walker Street, circa Christmas 1968(Vol.2,Iss.2)

Image

Here is a picture of me and my Aunt Mamie Ruth Mack Simmons. I was a youngster not more than two years old and it appears to be Christmas season (tree in the background) is a giveaway. Auntie Ruth and I were standing in the entryway of my Grandparents (Joe L. and Ruth Anderson) home at 24 Walker Street in Augusta, Georgia. My Auntie Ruth is looking  at me all smiles and joyfully holding me like I was a  gift at Christmas time. Auntie Ruth was sharp as a tack and her petite frame made her look classy and well put together, she was a lady’s lady.

On this past Saturday morning my dear Auntie Ruth slipped away from life and into death peacefully in her sleep. I am still not believing that she is no longer here. Auntie Ruth lived life to the fullest,  and did not even resemble her years. In fact we always wondered how “young” the oldest child of the seven siblings really was, it was a family legend and mystery.

Whenever we came together as a family we could always joke and laugh about how Auntie Ruth would feed us Cheerios without sugar back in the day. It was always a chore to try to distract Aunt Ruth so that one of the other children could sneak a scoop of sugar from the caddie that sat in the middle of the table. The family never let’s us (my sister Greta and I ) forget that we held a loaded gun to Auntie Ruth’s  temple as she lay in bed, and tried with success to coax the weapon out of the hands of a 4 and 5-year-old.

Until Saturday I had not known life without Auntie Ruth. I can only feel a wave of sadness at her transitioning from this earth and on to her heavenly home. I can be equally glad knowing that this world and all those she loved and touched were better for having come into her mist. May you  find peace Auntie Ruth as you have done your work here and can go onward and upward to  your final place of rest.

Salute and blessings to my Auntie Mamie Ruth Mack Simmons, find your place of rest. Mamie Ruth Mack Simmons

Thursday Thoughts by YoTrip for December 22, 2011-CHRISTMAS Is His Birthday Not Yours! (Vol.12, Iss.3)

CHRISTMAS is the largest holiday celebrated by people all over the world. Too often everyone gets all wrapped up in the presents that are presented and paying little attention to the greatest gift given. Always keep Christ in Christmas.” 12/21/11 ~~YoTrip

The birth of Jesus Christ is the reason for the season of Christmas, yet everyone acts as if it is their birthday. Newsflash folks stop ripping, running and rushing around for others and take a moment to put Christ back into Christmas.

December 25th will come and many people will be so consumed and absorbed with trees, decorations, that jolly joker Santa Claus, and cooking that they neglect and overlook the Saviour, the Christ.

The greatest present Jesus Christ, became the best gift Christmas that has been sidelined on his own birthday.

Beyond children who get sparkle in their eyes at the thought of toys and treats, adults show strive to give presents but keep Christ as the focus. Children should be taught that it is Christ’s birthday and he must be recognized.

During Christmas as you celebrate with family and friends, pause for the cause and of Christ Jesus and remember it is His birthday not yours. Merry  Christmas to you and yours!

The 13th Day Before Christmas

The 13th Day Before Christmas  and all throughout the land

Many people are out shopping with  plastic in hand

I can run around like the people over spending and overextending  too

The 13th day before Christmas and the retailers are hoping for big sales

Too many people are caught up in the madness on hoping not to fail

The 13th day before Christmas and some are out with long list to fulfill

Looking aimlessly for the perfect gift at a steal

The 13th day before Christmas and you have to say that the year has flown by

The frustration of the season will make some people cry

The 13th day before Christmas and some are looking for a gift to give

Price it is not object, in the coming months how will they live

The 13th day before Christmas and people have put the recession on hold

Come January or February they will be standing in the cold

The 13th day before Christmas and for some all is not well

The joy of the holiday season is not something all will tell

The 13th day before Christmas and some are lost in the rush of it all

Going from here and there on the verge of a fall

The 13th day before Christmas and has anyone stop to take a pause

This is not a celebration of green pointed trees and a man name Clause

The 13th day before Christmas and it is all for the risen Savior  we do celebrate

It is in preparation of the Lord Jesus’ birthday  that we should anticipate

The 13th day before Christmas  we need to shout and rejoice

To honor the King of Kings each person has to make a choice

The 13th day before Christmas and you still can make Christ Jesus the center

On the 13th day before Christmas what oh what shall you render

It is about the Lord Jesus not the sender.

The 13th day before Christmas and now and forever He rules supreme

Lift up the Saviour and let  your praises unfold in the dream.

A Season of Thanks

As we enter the time of year known as the holidays, Thanksgiving is here and Christmas is fast on its heals. This Is a Season of Thanks, for where we are and who we are, and what we have. A Season of Thanks ushers in a time when we reflect on gratitude. There is so much to be grateful for in this Season of Thanks, we cannot count up all the blessings.

For the next 30 days I will speak on the season of thanks. There are so many reasons to give thanks, 30 days does not even begin to scratch the surface.

Day 1 of the Season of Thanks is for LIFE.
My life is a gift and I am so thankful.

YoTrip-Words and Thoughts “An Ode to 2010″

an old post card

Image via Wikipedia

Greetings,
I was waiting in between flights today and this came to me so I thought I would share.

An Ode To 2010

A year of years was this 2010
I mean it was interesting down to the end
The year started with a boom and a earthqake
The poor people of Haiti it was more than they could take
The rains and waters were not kind in Tennessee
Mud slides and floods beyond what they eyes could see
March brought on Maddness of a different kind
There were days it was so cold in Florida the sun did not shine
A group shouting and rant about how goverment should be
Saw the world a bit different and called themeselves Tea
The champion of golf saw his personal life and game crumble
He was busy with some kitty cats who caused him to stumble
From Cleveland to Miami the King flew the coop
Chasing a ring down in south Florida, which is where he will now hoop
The comeback kid  an man named Vick, with a throwing arm that’s hot
The folks up Philly were afraid to give him a shot
The elections brought some sweeping changes locally and in DC
It will be a real dramedy of sorts to watch and see
The economy is still slow and joblessness is sad
Housing foreclosed this is the worst in 40 years we have had
Healthcare was a area of major debate
For or against, it was worth the wait.
Our troops are still off fighting in senseless combat
Let’s pray for their return from Afganistan and Iraq
The social media arena really got large
Facebook, Linkedin, and Twitter operating with no user charge
The country of Chile and their trapped 68 miners
Offer the world a lesson in humilty and to quit our whining
The gulf region was hit hard by BP’s oil spill mess
It was hard watching the wildlife and mankind being put to the test
The snow storms of Chirstmas left many at airports with flights stalled out
The stranded not having happy holidays missing family and friends caused them to pout.
So now we are here at the last day of 2010
Be happy, celebrate as we usher 2011 in!

Thursday Thinking for October 14, 2010-Are you in a HOLE that is HOLDing you hostage?

A miner measures mine minerals

Image via Wikipedia

hole

noun, verb, holed, hol·ing.

–noun 1. an opening through something; gap; aperture: a hole in the roof; a hole in my sock.

2. a hollow place in a solid body or mass; a cavity: a hole in the ground.

3. the excavated habitation of an animal; burrow.
4. a small, dingy, or shabby place: I couldn’t live in a hole like that.
5. a place of solitary confinement; dungeon. 6. an embarrassing position or predicament: to find oneself in a hole.  http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/hole

Are you in a HOLE that is HOLDing you hostage?

The recent rescue of the 33 Chilean miners from a HOLE in the San Jose gold and copper mines, grabbed the attention of everyone on the planet. For 69 days these courageous men (the youngest is 19 and the oldest is 63) stayed trapped in the confines of an opening, a gap, a hollowed cavity…a HOLE. It is unbelievable, unimaginable, and unthinkable to be suddenly “buried alive”. Surely not one of these men left their homes and expected to be stuck in a HOLE. The families, the friends, the people of Chile gathered and waited from August 5th until August 22nd to realize all 33 men were alive and able to communicate with the outside world. These 33 men had to react to the conditions, render care to each other, and remain close.  The 33 Chilean miners had to put their trust in each other for their survival in a HOLE. Everything that these men knew, loved, and desired were suddenly miles away from them. The miners were told that help was on the way, but it would be slow..their rescue was expected no sooner than Christmas. No only were the miners struck in a HOLE, full of dust from the stone, they relying on each other, and uncertain of when someone would  come to their rescue. A HOLE that these miners arrived at on August 5th for a regular day of work  was now HOLDing them hostage. The miners had to make a decision: Are they in a HOLE that is HOLDing them hostage?    As days turned into weeks, and the weeks to months the 33 miners remained resolved that the HOLE was HOLDing them, not as hostages but for the help that was on the way. Trust was coupled with faith, as the 33 miners believed the stay in the HOLE was temporary. The miners stayed strong and worked along with the rescuers on the surface by preparing to leave the HOLE. Rescuers were motivated by the 33 miners and their resilient measures, which helped the speed  up the methods for drilling down into the HOLE for access. Christmas came early for the 33 miners on Tuesday, October 12th. The world watched in amazement as the rescue team successfully lifted the first Chilean miner out of the HOLE. For the next two days the rescuers would slowly drop a cylinder into the earth to remove the 33 miners out of the HOLE and release them back into the real world. The HOLE that was HOLDing the miners was insulating them from the media frenzy and the normal lives they left 69 days ago. Makes you wonder if these 33 miners will ever be able to get away from the HOLE that was HOLDing them hostage. The next time you seek to complain about life and journey you are on, think of these 33 miner miracles and how they keep the faith and trusted the rescuers to remove them  from the HOLE that was HOLDing them hostage.~~YoTrip
