Father Knows Best
Father knows best is what I have been told
You can journey in his eyes to see his soul
Father knows best is it the lion-like beating on his chest
Or is it the way he finds comfort as he settles in on mama’s as a place of rest
Father knows best as he provides and resides over his place
When he needs “man time” please give him his space
Father knows best how to teach his sons to be a man
So they can grow up and on their own take a stand
Father knows best how to raise their daughters to be a princess and a queen
A person with presence always on the scene
Father knows best how to be a good husband to their wife
Gives her the world and shares the good and bad in life.
Father knows best to seek the Father as a leader and guide
In the Father he can find a safe place to hide
Father knows best on the things that matter most
So let’s honor the humble Father who does not brag or boast.
Father knows best!

The popular radio and television show “Father Knows Best” of the ’50′s and ’60′s,highlights the Anderson family and focuses in on the patriarch, Jim Anderson and his interaction and reactions to his three children. The phrase “Father Knows Best” would indicate the wisdom, advice, or guidance that Jim would give in the course of the 22 minutes allotted for the show. Recognition of a Father’s ability to remedy or cure problems, give reverence to his role as leader or head of his household. In the show the Father, Jim Anderson had the final word for what would happen, even if that meant something as simple as saying, “Go ask your Mother”, a clear indicator that he realized how important Mother’s are in the family unit. “Father Knows Best“, was a show that represented the emerging modern group known as “the middle class”, a happy family living on tree-lined streets in nice neighborhoods.
Fast forward to 2010 and so many things are different in society, and you are hard-pressed to find many who would attest to the fact that Fathers even matter. As we approach Sunday, June 20, 2010 the day set aside to honor Fathers, lets remember those who are leaders in their families, keeping their family together, and providing a model for the role of Fatherhood. “Father Knows Best”, a small phrase with a large impact on children and families. Happy Father’s Day.
