March Madness/Final Four

The NCAA Men’s Division I Basketball Championship is a single elimination tournament held each spring in the United States, featuring 65 college basketball teams, both conference champions and at-large selections. The tournament, organized by the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), was created in 1939 by the National Association of Basketball Coaches and was the brainchild of Kansas coach Phog Allen[1][2] Held mostly in March, it is informally known as March Madness or the Big Dance; the tournament, and especially the national semifinals and final (the Final Four), has become one of the nation’s most prominent sporting events. Since its inception, the tournament bracket has included conference tournament champions from each Division I conference, which receive automatic bids. The remaining slots are at-large berths, with teams chosen by an NCAA selection committee. The selection process and tournament seedings are based on several factors, including team rankings, win-loss records and RPI data. Each year the month of March brings us to a time of invitation, elimination and celebration by the way of the NCAA Men’s Basketball Championship. The sport fanatic is like a kid in a candy store, as they receive the Sunday paper and it gives a breakdown of brackets for the 65 teams that made the cut for the Big Dance. Once the teams are announced then the alignment of “picks” begin. The teams consist of big names (UCLA, North Carolina, Kentucky, Kansas, or Duke) who attend the dance year after year, and little known schools (Arkansas-Pine Bluff and Wofford) who are just happy to make it to the pool of 65. Once the games begins the 4 brackets of 16 teams (Sweet 16) drops down to 8 teams (Elite 8) then 4 teams (Final Four-Michigan vs. Butler & West Virginia vs. Duke) and of course the championship. The last four teams have been driven, diligent and determined to get to this point. Two teams will be triumphant and move to the last dance and then one team will rise to victory as a champion.

As we move out of March and its Madness I ask you take some personal inventory, check your record, how did you make out for the season? Did you make it out of your comfort zone and get invited to the Big Dance? If you made it to the dance, did you stay on the floor for the first round, the second round, the semi-finals, and the finals? Are you so hungry for victory that you can see yourself climbing the ladder to the basketball goal to cut the net? What will it feel like to hold the trophy and be recognized as a CHAMPION? March and all its Madness is more than a game, I challenge you to play hard until the final buzzer sounds and the clock runs down to “0″. Remember unlike March Madness and the Final Four, you are playing this game for life, so head for the goal with a mindset to SCORE BIG!–YoTrip

This poem is for all who are experiencing the adventure of the JOURNEY. As we take trips that deal with the mental mind, visual sight, physical ability, social skills and emotional capacity we must realize that we will need and have help along the way. When things get difficult, be committed to stay the course, even when you are not sure where it will take you. We will reach our desired destination by our driven determination to get there.

THE JOURNEY

Cast upon the trail of the path that our feet have never known.

Forge forward to our purposed place a destination for new seeds to be sown.

A sense of wonder we now display

Look at us with so much to encounter along the way.

He, who made it possible by way of where He stands,

He gives you a level of courage to meet your pressing demands.

Your feet and heart will guide you when you think you can’t go the next leg of the way.

Favor and knowledge will keep you moving towards a new day.

We are fit for it, we have spent for it, and we are meant for it, as it is ours to take.

Staying true to our purposed path we seek now to make.

The JOURNEY is now placed before us our stance must now be strong.

If we follow sound direction we can never go wrong.

We go now with confidence on this The JOURNEY is our call.

Moving by faith and trusting Him to catch us should we fall.

Move swiftly toward the goal set on the path we see.

Our aim, our claim is to be the best that we can be!
